Toedscool, the Woodear Pokémon, is one of the new Pokémons of Paldea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Do you know everything about him? Let’s see 5 curiosities you probably don’t know about it!
The Pokédex of Pokémon Scarlet says "The flaps that fall from its body are chewy and very delicious"; this means that it is a common custom to eat these parts of Toedscool’s body when they come off, would you taste them? What do you think they taste like? I think like strawberry jelly!
In fact, when you defeat a Toedscool, It'll drop a Toedscool Flap!
Although he is only 0.90m tall, its thin sprawling legs allow him to run at a speed of 30 mph, almost reaching the speed of a Dodrio (40 mph)!
Seeing it run is a lot of fun! If you are a photo mode lover like me, it will be a challenge to take a picture of it!
Pokemon is based on the wood ear mushroom, also known as jellyfish mushroom or tree mushroom. It is a food that is usually shredded and died in Asian cuisine.
The origin of the name is a mix between toadstool (mushroom), toed (because it has toes) and Tentacool.
Everyone may think that this Pokémon is an alternative form of Tentacool or maybe a regional form, but that's not!
As the Pokédex says "Though it looks like Tentacool, Toedscool is a completely different species".
These particular Pokémon were called Regional Fake (or RFake for short), a name born during the leak season. It is the only RFake in the game along with the evolutionary line of Wiglett.
As you explore the game files, you can see that each Pokémon is codenamed; for example, Paradox Pokémon are marked with the letters A or B, evidently because the official creature names have not been defined yet.
Why am I telling you this? Because the identifying names of Toedscool and Toedscruel are respectively OKAKINGU and OKAGYARADOSU, the Japanese names of Magikarp and Gyarados!
From this we can say that initially they were the Pokémon RFake present in Scarlet and Violet, but for a reason unknown to us they were replaced by Toedscool and Toedscruel.
What do you think? How would you have imagined a Magikarp and a Gyarados RFake?
Magikarp and Gyarados were originally planned to have Convergent Species instead of Tentacool and Tentacruel.

In fact the codename of Toedscruel still is OKAGYARADOSU, they didn't even bother to change it. pic.twitter.com/VK2SRk3GHm
