Pokémon Go’s Year of the Dragon Event

Pokémon Go is celebrating the Lunar New Year with a special event themed around Dragon-types and new arrivals

The event, named “Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed”, runs from February 5 at 10am local time to February 11 at 8pm local time.

New Pokémon Debut

The event marks the debut of Drampa, the Placid Pokémon. This Dragon/Normal-type Pokémon is exclusively available in three-star raids during the event1. Excitingly, it can be obtained as a Shiny right away.

The one-star raids feature Dratini, Deino and Goomy, while the three-star raids include Druddigon, Turtonator and Drampa.

Wild Encounters

The boosted wild spawns include Magikarp, Dratini, Shuckle, Fennekin, Skrelp, Noibat, and Jangmo-o.

Event Bonuses

The event offers several bonuses:

  • Increased chance to get Lucky Pokémon in Trades and to become Lucky Friends
  • Players can also earn additional Candy when catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws.
  • Trainers level 31 and up have increased odds to get Candy XL when catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws

Timed Research

For those seeking additional content, there is Timed Research and a Global Challenge available. However, a ticket must be purchased for the former.

This event is the first big event for February, so players should try to finish their seasonal Timeless Travels Special Research before it goes away at the end of the month. So, get ready to hunt some dragons!

  • Stardust, XP, and two Lucky Eggs
  • Encounters with event-themed Pokémon
