How to catch Shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

First of all, It’s important to specify that, under normal conditions, the encounter rate of shiny Pokémons is 1/4096 and that makes them very rare.

Fortunately, there are some tricks that can increase the chances of encountering these special Pokémons!

SHINY CHARM

The first useful tool to increase the chances of meeting a shiny pokemon is the Shiny Charm, obtainable by professor Jacq once completed all the Pokedex of Paldea.

Just go to the school and collect your amazing prize, which will reduce the encounter rate to 1/1366.

MASUDA METHOD

The Masuda Method, named after the famous Junichi Masuda, is a technique based on the mechanics of eggs. To increase your chances of getting a shiny, you must breed two Pokémons from different countries. We recommend to exchange a Ditto with online players, in order to easily obtain a foreign one; the trading code you can use is 4448 - 4448.

The odds will be 1/683 and with the Shiny Charm will lower to 1/512.

Also, boost spawn frequency of eggs by creating sandwiches with Egg Power.

SANDWICHES RECIPES

With the new sandwich mechanics introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can make recipes that can increase the Shiny Power.

Here you can find the list of recipes that will increase the Sparkling Power to Lv. 3.

The shiny encounter rate will lower to 1/1024 and with the Shiny Charm to 1/683.

MASS OUTBREAKS

In Mass Outbreaks the shiny rates are higher. To use this method, go to a Mass Outbrake and defeat 60 Pokémons.

We recommend saving the game multiple times and to get away and return in the area frequently to spawning new Pokémons. After defeating 60 Pokémons, the shiny rate will lower to 1/1366 and with the Shiny Charm to 1/820.
