Official Japanese popularity polls have always been unbelievable to many foreigners.
But is this poll the most unbelievable poll of all?
This poll was organized by the Japanese magazine called Nintendo Dream.
The poll results were shocking– not only to foreigners, but also Japanese people themselves.
Particularly, people were shocked how Hop would rank higher than Marnie, and how Avery would rank higher than Klara.
Why would Nessa rank so low?
Even Japanese people thought this poll was bogus.
But one of the reasons why male characters ranked so high in this poll was because of this:
According to the magazine, somewhat 80% of the voters were female.
While there are no official statistics regarding the gender of Pokemon fans, there’s absolutely no way female Pokemon fans would take up 80% of the Pokemon fandom.
This poll also contradicts with TCG prices by a lot.
In Japan, the Pokemon card shop Yuyutei is a great indicator of Pokemon card prices.
According to Yuyutei, the price of a Klara full art card is somewhat 7 times more expensive that of Avery’s.
But of course, the price of the cards can be greatly influenced by how strong or useful the card is.
As an Avery fan myself, I would like to hope that Avery is popular.
So I searched other polls.
Another Avery fan has mailed me a Korean popularity poll of Galar characters.
Alike the Japanese poll, Raihan was the most popular in this Korean poll.
Avery didn’t make it to the top 10.
I wondered how Avery did in the poll, so I looked more into the poll.
Ah, Avery was actually 11th in the Korean poll.
That wasn’t very bad at all.
As an Avery fan, I was happy about the results.
But what about you? Did you like the results?
Or did you think the poll results were completely bogus?
I'd like to know your opinions. :)
